Botswana among countries targeted by Interpol global clampdown on illicit medicines
Botswana is one of eighty nine countries targeted in a crackdown on transnational crime syndicates that put consumer safety at risk by selling illicit medicines. In a statement announcing the findings, Interpol indicated that the global crackdown targeted illicit medications that are a serious risk to consumer safety, such as fake medications and medications that have been taken out of authorised and controlled supply chains.
The annual campaign targets illicit medicines that pose a significant threat to consumer safety, including counterfeit medicines and medicines diverted from legal and regulated supply chains. They also represent a major source of income for transnational organized crime groups and support other crime activity, reads part of Interpols statement, adding that Botswana was one of the participating countries.
